Kihiw

I heard an eagle call on windspeaker radio today

My spirit woke from hibernation with a jolt only to fall back into an unwilled slumber

My body and spirit craves the call of Kihiw

The presence of Muskwa, the call of moswa, my relatives of the land

It feels as if I would need to hear that eagle - kihiw, 1000 times to heal from the past several hundred (how many hundred?) years of loss.

Lost relatives, lost stories, lost land, lost language, lost teachings, lost relationships, lost being. A Loss that sinks deep into the pores of my physical and spiritual body.

1000 times to remember the time of before

and forgive all that I and my people, plant, and more-than-human animal relatives have known since.

1000 times to break free of the colonial bars that harbour our being- mind, body, spirit.

1000 calls to break through the concrete, the lights, the power lines, the cars, and the noise that embody this land. What is land in the city? Who is land in the city? Is their spirit still there? Underneath the layers and weight of this colonial and capital power?

Would 1000 calls from kihiw wake them up?
